In a proactive move, ASI Bipin Ch. Mondal of Chapra Police Station, Nadia, along with a police force, thwarted an attempted dacoity and arrested three individuals.
The arrested individuals were identified as Samar Santra (35 years), Pradip Santra @ Bhim Santra (26 years), and Sanjib Bar @ Patla (23 years). They were apprehended during a raid conducted on April 9, 2024, around 01:35 hrs at Balidanga More beside Ranabandh Road under PS Chapra.
During the raid, the police recovered and seized an improvised firearm resembling a pipe gun loaded with one round of 12 bore ammunition, along with one knife, one daw, and three pieces of iron rod. Additionally, two pieces of nylon rope were confiscated from their possession, all meticulously documented under proper seizure lists.
The operation unfolded as the accused persons, along with their associates, were assembling at the spot, allegedly preparing to commit dacoity in the adjacent Balidanga village area. Although three to four other accomplices managed to evade arrest in the darkness, Samar Santra, Pradip Santra, and Sanjib Bar were apprehended.
Upon interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed to their involvement in the planned crime. However, they failed to produce any valid documents in support of the seized arms and ammunition.
