Tragedy struck on the evening of March 27, 2024, as a collision on NH-34 near Gaborkuli claimed the life of Nimai Sarkar, a 35-year-old resident of Dakshin Mekhliganj. Bacchan Sarkar, Nimai’s brother, lodged a complaint detailing the incident with authorities at Mekhliganj Police Station, Cooch Behar.
According to the complaint, at approximately 6:30 PM, a lorry with registration number WB45-8956, traveling from the Bethua direction, collided with Nimai Sarkar near the Saw Mill in Gaborkuli. The collision, attributed to rash and negligent driving by the lorry driver, resulted in grievous injuries to Nimai Sarkar.
Nimai was rushed to Dhubulia Rural Hospital, but unfortunately, the medical officer on duty pronounced him dead upon arrival. The incident has prompted an investigation by local authorities into the circumstances surrounding the collision and the actions of the lorry driver.
